Chromosomal Interchanges in Maize.
Chromosomal interchanges, or reciprocal translocations, in maize are of primary interest because of the opportunities they offer for the study of chromosome behavior and crossing over. The great volume of work which has been done on crossing over and on translocations in Drosophila has yielded an abundance of statistical data on crossing over and chromosome distribution. For this type of work D...
متن کاملRadiosensitizing effects of melatonin on radiation induced chromosomal aberration in G2-lymphocytes of breast cancer patients
Background: Radiotherapy is regarded as a standard treatment modality in breast cancer (BC). Radiation causes cellular damage both in cancer and normal cells by inducing DNA-damage and chromosomal aberrations (CA). Different agents were used for ameliorating effects of radiation, mainly antioxidants such as melatonin. Melatonin shows oncostatic properties on human BC. The aim of this study was ...
متن کاملGamma Radiation Induced Chromosomal Aberrations at Mitosis in Allium cepa L
Mutagenic effectiveness of gamma rays on Allium cepa was studied. The seeds were treated with five doses (viz. 5kR, 10kR, 15 kR, 20kR and 25kR) of gamma rays. Chromosomal abnormalities were observed. Chromosomal aberrations like, dicentric, tricentric, ring, minute, deletion, fragment, laggard, bridge and micronuclei were noticed in treated root tip mitosis. The chromosomal abnormalities were i...
متن کاملRadiation-induced chromosomal aberrations and lethals in Aspergillus nidulans.
The frequency of translocations induced in diploid conidia of Aspergillus nidulans by gamma rays was much higher than that of recessive mutants involving a single chromosome. More than half of the surviving nuclei contained viable translocations at radiation doses within the range normally employed for induction of mutants in microorganisms.
متن کاملDelineating Chromosomal Breakpoints in Radiation-Induced Papillary Thyroid Cancer
Recurrent translocations are well known hallmarks of many human solid tumors and hematological disorders, where patient- and breakpoint-specific information may facilitate prognostication and individualized therapy. In thyroid carcinomas, the proto-oncogenes RET and NTRK1 are often found to be activated through chromosomal rearrangements. However, many sporadic tumors and papillary thyroid carc...
